A tight contest would go against TMCC in the Mighty Lizards first-ever meeting with Community Christian College on Thursday afternoon.

The Saints would take a 1-0 lead shortly after the opening whistle, when forward Nicole Thompson would nail an excellent strike past TMCC goalkeeper Sierra Gutierrez. However, the Mighty Lizards would settle in shortly afterward, keeping the visitors without a shot on goal for the remainder of the first half. TMCC outshot their opponents 7-1 in the opening period, and came close to drawing even on a few chances that would sail high.

After a brief delay as a result of thunder in the area, TMCC’s women got back to work in the second half, knocking on the door constantly. The Mighty Lizards controlled the attacking third for most of the final 45 minutes, doing extremely well to keep possession and create opportunities. However, a 50th minute shot from Saints forward Samantha Garcia would extend the deficit to two.

TMCC would finally break through in the 81st minute, finding net on Yanitzia Perez-Galvan’s third score of the season. As time winded down, the Mighty Lizards would put five shots on frame in the final ten minutes, but would be unable to pull even.

Sophomore Yanitzia Perez-Galvan was excellent for TMCC up top, netting the squad’s lone score of the day while also putting three of four shots on frame. The forward did well to manufacture chances for Mia Takekuma and Daisy De La Torre-Jimenez as well, who fought hard on the attacking end for TMCC.

TMCC’s Women will take to the pitch next on Saturday, September 11 when they welcome the College of Southern Nevada. Kickoff is set for 1:00PM and the match will be streamed live on the Lizards Sports Network.
