Nevada track and field's Costello and Green earn all-time marks at UNLV Invitational

Nevada track and field's Emily Costello moves from 4th to 2nd all-time at Nevada in the 200m dash with a time of 23.93 (Nevada athletics)

The Wolf Pack track and field team competed in it’s second outdoor event of the season, which saw junior Emily Costello and senior Lauren Green have Nevada all-time marks.

Costello, who was already 10th on the all-time list for the 100 meter dash (11.93), moved up to sixth all-time with a time of 11.73. The time also earned her an eighth place finish in the meet.

The junior also moved up from fourth to second all-time in the 200m dash with a time of 23.93. Her mark in the event also earned Costello a seventh place finish.

Green moved into the all-time list for the 400m dash. She is now ninth all-time with a time of 56.14. Beating her old personal best of 56.46 and earning a third place finish.

Also in the 400m dash, freshman Lilly Gregg Improved her time with a time of 59.03. Beating her time of 59.32 at the Sacramento State Tri-Meet and earning an 11th place finish.

Both athletes from Antelope, Calif. earned new personal bests in their respective events. Senior Brooke Carson earned a new personal best in the 100m dash with a time of 12.29. This beating her old mark of 12.74 and earning her a 19th place finish. Freshman Kylie Burton improved her 400m hurdles time from 1:05.31 to 1:03.57. This earned the true freshman a seventh place finish.

Freshman Reagan Gorezman also earned a new personal best in the 800m run with a time of 2:18.01. Beating her old mark of 2:27.75 and finishing in eighth place. Senior Eliza McCall also competed in the 800m run and finished with a time 2:18.40, earning her an 11th place finish.

Some of the field events saw some Pack athletes come close to new personal bests. Senior Emma Dern finished in 11th in the shot put with a distance of 12.87m. Just .01m off her personal best.

Freshman Alisha Pawlowski finished in 9th in the high jump with a height of 1.62m. Just off her first outdoor mark of 1.65m.

In the long and triple jump, the Pack had three athletes finish in the top-10. Sophomore Rayven Nealey finished in sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.11m. Junior Gabby Fraser finished in eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.88m. Lastly, junior Hanah Smrt finished in ninth in the long jump with a distance of 5.52m.

The Pack also saw success in relay events. The team of Hanah Smrt, Rayven Nealey, freshman Olaia Becerill, and junior Anna Sommerfeld finished in 5th with a time of 47.93 in the 4x100m relay.

The 4x400m team of Lauren Green, Brooke Carson, Emily Costello, and Lilly Gregg finished in fourth with a time of 3:52.88. The team of junior Shelby Garrison, Kylie Burton, freshman Serena Shimada, and freshman Summer Steinsrud finished in ninth with a time of 4:04.53.

In the long distance events, freshman Marena Middleton had the best Pack time in the 5000m run with a time of 18:44.56 and a 12th place finish. Senior Alexis Melendrez was just behind her with a time of 18:47.92 in 14th place. Freshman Carley Legenbauer finished in 15th with a time of 19:25.68.

The men’s cross country team saw some of its members compete during the meet. Sophomore Jared Marchegger finished in second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:48.68.

In the men’s 5000m, Celime Garcia finished with the fastest Pack time with a time of 15:48.91. This earned him a 16th place finish. Right behind him in order was freshman Andrew Ribeiro (15:39.44), sophomore Carson Leavitt (15.58.07), sophomore Alex Mendoza (16:05.04), and freshman Brian Kipchumba (16:06.46).

Sophomore Massimiliano Swenson finished in 10th in the 1500m run with a time of 4:08.71, while freshman Kyle Elias finished in 21st with a time of 4:23.17.

The Wolf Pack would finish the meet with an 11th place twam finish and 31 team points. The team will look to compete at the Texas Relays next week from Mar. 26-27.
