1-1 draw for TMCC men in Silver State showdown with CSN

A 1-1 draw in extra time would be the result in Truckee Meadows first meeting of the fall with in-state rival Southern Nevada.

The Mighty Lizards came out of the gate firing, controlling the attacking third early in the first half. Second year midfielder Luiz Chavez nearly put TMCC up 1-0 just two minutes in, but his shot from outside the penalty box would go off the crossbar. Additional chances from Allen Somera, Cuauhtemoc Borjon, and Wilmer Hernandez would keep the Coyotes on their heels early.

CSN would open the scoring, finding net in the 14th minute when Bryan Martinez-Serano punch one in off an assist from Lucas Mourino. The forward would lead the Coyotes attack for the remainder of the afternoon, posting four shots for the match and putting two on frame.

TMCC’s defensive unit would keep the Coyotes quiet for the remainder of the match, keeping them to four shots without an attempt on frame.

As the second half continued, TMCC kept knocking on the door, but would have trouble breaking through until late in regulation. Freshman Jaden Roig would net a score in the 88th minute assisted by sophomore Ben Linnert to pull even and force extra time with just a minute remaining.

The Mighty Lizards kept the pressure on to open extra minutes, dominating possession over the Coyotes during the first ten minutes. Solid looks from Erick Ceja-Gonzalez and Ben Linnert nearly put the match away, but CSN’s Ivan Rodriguez did well to mitigate the pressure in the box.

A last minute corner in the second half of extra time came close to securing the Lizards a victory, but a great strike from Allen Somera would go just wide of the post. Somera would lead TMCC, alongside Wilmer Hernandez-Parra and Luis Chavez, with three shots on the afternoon.

Following the draw, TMCC’s men will stay home this coming week and play host to Salt Lake Community College on Saturday, September 18. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. and the match will be streamed live on the Lizards Sports Network.
