NSN High School Football Power Rankings: Week 3

Week two of high school football in Northern Nevada is officially in the books. Click to watch the Dolan Top 5 plays of the week. Here's Nevada Sports Net's top 5 teams so far:

1. Damonte Ranch

It's been a fantastic start to the Mustangs season opening to a 3-0 start.

A senior quarterback in Cade McNamara with an arsenal of receivers including younger brother Kyle McNamara makes an interesting new dynamic duo in south Reno. The Mustangs look complete and primed for to return to a 4A Championship.

2. McQueen

There's something brewing in Northwest Reno as Jim Snelling and company opened their season to an impressive 51-14 win and followed that with a 27-13 win over Del Campo.

Senior running back JD Kolb has been a stud for the Lancers. Expect him to continue to shine in his final season with McQueen. He was coined with the Dolan Top 5 number one play of the week with an impressive 71 yard touchdown.

3. Bishop Manogue

Despite falling on the road for the first time this season, Miner senior running back Peyton Dixon is still taking the north by storm. He finished Friday's game with 23 carries for 432 yards and 6 touchdowns. He has 40 carries, 705 yards and 11 touchdowns through the first two games of the season.

Things seem to be clicking early for Head Coach Ernie Howren in his second season with the Miners.

4. Reno

Cracking the top 5 for the first time this season following a 28-7 win over Galena. The Huskies are 1-1 with a game against Reed on Friday.

5. Spanish Springs

The Cougars opened their season with a loss to California out of San Ramon but bounced back with a 47-13 rout of Nevada Union.

Spanish Springs opened the game to a 21-0 score after 2 touchdown passes from Tristan Szabo and a 1 yard scoring run by Colby Preston.

Szabo, a sophomore quarterback, picked apart California completing 24 of his 32 passes for 378 yards and 6 touchdowns.

In week 3, the Cougars are coming off a disappointing 47-16 loss to Monterey Trail. They will need to forget that loss quickly as they travel to Damonte Ranch Friday night in our game of the week.

Honorable Mention:

Entering the 4A in impressive fashion opening to a 2-0 start. There's something brewing with the Colts as they try to reestablish themselves in the 4A.
