The Atlanta Falcons' trade of Mohamed Sanu to the New England Patriots earlier this week has had ripple effects locally.
The Falcons on Wednesday promoted wide receiver Christian Blake from their practice squad to the active roster, which allowed Atlanta to add Reed High alum Devin Gray to the practice squad.
Gray, 24, was on the Falcons' practice squad for the 2018 season and spent the 2019 preseason with the team before being released during roster cuts. During the 2019 preseason, Gray caught seven passes for 107 yards, the third most on the team. Gray was drafted last week by the XFL's Houston Roughnecks, but players were eligible to leave for the NFL prior to XFL training camp opening.
Gray, a 2014 high school graduate, played for Reed High School before joining Sierra College out of high school. He transferred to Cincinnati for his final two seasons of college before going undrafted and signing a free-agent deal with the Falcons. Gray is one of two Reed High graduates with NFL teams, joining Austin Corbett, who was recently traded by the Browns to the Rams.
