Pack sweeps home tournament with win over CSUN

The Nevada Volleyball team sweeps the Nevada Classic tournament with a win over CSUN this Saturday. The Pack was able to pick up the win in four-sets. Nevada is now 3-8 in the season, starting conference play next weekend at home.

Senior Kyla Waiters, junior Andrea Alcaraz and Sydney Petersen were named to the All-Tournament team while Petersen was named the MVP of the weekend for her performances.

On Nevada took the first, second and fourth set while CSUN took set three. Each of the sets won by the Pack came at a score of 25-19 and then the fourth was a win, 25-23.

Petersen had another double-digits match to her season with 13 kills four block assists, with a .571 hitting percentage, while Waiters scored 12 kills and three block assists. Alcaraz had 26 assists, one service ace and five digs, while senior Kaila Spevak recorded 13 digs throughout the match.

The match came down to a fourth set, after Nevada winning 25-19 in both first and second set. The Pack controlled the match with great distribution of balls by Alcaraz, with Savanna Maker, Reka Monteleone and Petersen all leading the Pack kills in the first set. Following by a great defense led by Spevak, with 13 digs in the first set.

In the second set, the Pack made a five-score run to start the set after two kills by Monteleone and two service aces from Sia Liilii. The Pack combined had 13 kills with a .263 hitting percentage error.

Going into the third set, the Nevada started the set with a four-score run, but the CSUN was able to tie the game and take the lead over the set, closing the score in 25-18.

In the final set, the Pack was able to make a comeback after being behind in 18-15. Nevada was able to tie the game in 23-23, and closing the match after a kill by Petersen, in 25-23.

Nevada volleyball will start the Mountain West play this week at the Virginia Street Gym against San Diego State Sep. 23 and the in-state rivals UNLV, as a part of the Silver State Series. on Sep. 25. Live stats and stream will be available through
