Nevada volleyball drops first match of the UC Davis tournament

The Nevada volleyball team falls the first match of the day against UC Davis this Friday morning. The Pack had a great start in all sets but was not able to hold it. Nevada lost 3-0 to the Aggies, on set one 25-22, set two 25-23, and set three 25-16.

Nevada will be back this afternoon to face Santa Clara at 5 p.m.. The live stats of the match can be followed at the UC Davis website.

Junior Sydney Petersen led the Pack with 11 kills and a .261 hitting percentage. Andrea Alcaraz once again led the team in assists (33) while senior Kaila Spevak led the team in digs (20).

Nevada started the game behind the Aggies but was able to tie the game in 18-18 after a service ace by Spevak, a kill by freshman Sia Liilii and a kill by Petersen. A kill by UC Davis closed the set 25-22. Petersen finished the set leading the match with 6 kills.

The Pack was able to control the first half of the set until the Aggies tied the game in 9-9. A great sequence of kills by Nevada offense was able to keep the lead until the Aggies took the lead in 23-23 and closing the set 25-23 on a service ace. Kyla Waiters was a decisive player at the end of the set, and lead the team with 5 kills, together with sophomore Reka Monteleone.

In the final set, the Pack was not able to continue the momentum offensively from set two. The Aggies started the set ahead in 10-7. A sequence of errors by Nevada gave UC Davis a six-point lead that the Pack was not able to recover, closing the game in 25-16.
