Nevada tight end Reagan Roberson and his family go big for Thanksgiving dinner

Thanksgiving dinner is a big deal at Reagan Roberson's house.

The Wolf Pack tight end, wrapping up his fifth and final season at Nevada, joined NSN Daily this week and broke down what Thanksgiving is like at his family home in Gardnerville. It starts with bread baked by his mom that has become famous in the Wolf Pack coaching offices.

"My mom's just an all-around fantastic baker," the Douglas High alum said. "So we have our sourdough starter. If you know anything about sourdough bread, it takes a starter to make the bread and our sourdough starter is, like, 60 years old. Every year, you have to feed the starter to make sure it keeps. So you feed it and use part of it to make the next loaf. And then you have the same starter and you feed it again, and it kind of just continues like that. We make tons of bread every year for everybody in Carson Valley and Gardnerville, all of our family and friends. And once I came up here as a freshman, it might have been a little boost that helped give me some playing time, but I tried to get some bread up to these coaches. Let them know that I appreciate them around Christmas time. It means a lot to be able to bring them some bread and and give them a little gift around that time of year."

The bread is just the start. There's also a special soufflé made by his aunt, about three dozen pies from great-grandma and a turkey farm is involved, too.

"My aunt makes a great carrot soufflé that's almost like a sweet potato soufflé because you think it's sweet like sweet potatoes, but it's actually made with carrots," Roberson said. "That's one of my favorites, and we have a turkey farm down in Gardnerville, so our homegrown home-raised turkeys are some of the best turkeys you'll have. Those are great. And then we have stuffing and my great-grandma makes like 40 pies every Thanksgiving, so she goes big. Every one of her pies is awesome. So we do it big at Thanksgiving at our house."

Not only big with the food, but big with the size of the gathering, too.

"It's an open-door Thanksgiving, so you guys are more than welcome to come on down the carnival," Roberson said.
