Nevada drops close first conference matchup against Aggies (Nevada athletics)

The Nevada Wolf Pack soccer team took on the Utah State Aggies in their first conference matchup of the season, which saw the Pack just drop the match 2-1.

The first half of the match was quiet for both teams. No goals were scored in the 45 minutes of play. Defense was very heavy, as senior Kendal Stovall had two saves, while the Aggies had one save. The Aggies would also lead the half in shots with six. The Pack had two.

The second half saw most of the offensive action, as three goals were scored. Within the first three minutes of the second half, sophomore Maddie Marr got the Pack on the board with a head butt goal from a corner kick, assisted by senior Hannah Souza. The Pack would take the lead, but would not last long as the Aggies were on the attack.

Two minutes after Marr’s goal, the Aggies would tie it back with a goal by senior Ashley Cardozo. The senior wouldn't stop there, as she would assist the Aggies on their game winning goal later in the match. With five minutes left to play, senior Jordan Foraker would win it for the Aggies with her first goal of the season.

In the match, both teams would finish with three total saves. The Aggies led the match with 14 shots to the Pack’s seven shots. Each of the Pack’s seven shots were by a different student-athlete. The Pack would lead the game in corner kicks with 10 compared to the Aggies’ six.

The Nevada soccer team will continue their conference slate, as they head back to Reno to take on the Boise State Broncos on Sunday, Sept. 26.
