TMCC’s men fell to Salt Lake Community College 2-0 on Saturday, ending a two match unbeaten streak.
The Mighty Lizards did well to contain the defending national champions early, keeping SLCC to just a single chance on five shots in the first half. TMCC nearly pulled ahead in the 8th minute, but sophomore Ben Linnert’s shot would be saved by Bruins goalkeeper Christian Olivares.
SLCC would open the scoring in the 13th minute, when Kai Phillip would find the net off an assist from Omar Gomez.
Salt Lake would double their advantage in the 25th, when the Bruins were awarded a penalty after a foul committed by goalkeeper Sean Lucas. Midfielder Omar Gomez would convert to put the visitors up 2-0, an advantage they would take into the break.
Defense would dominate the second half’s action, with both squads scoreless through the final 45. While TMCC would threaten, they were unable to break through despite doing well to possess in the midfield. TMCC’s back line was equally stout, limiting the space of Bruins attackers well and keeping all six of their attempts off target.
Each of the Mighty Lizards seven shots Saturday came off the foot of a different player. Freshman Cuauhtemoc Borjon and sophomore Ben Linnert would put up TMCC’s only two attempts on frame, however. In addition to Linnerts 8th minute opportunity, Borjon put up a good look early in the second period.
TMCC will have another week of rest before travelling to Colorado Northwestern Community College on September 25. Kickoff is set for 10:00AM and the match will be streamed live on the Lizards Sports Network.
