The Mighty Lizards came away victorious in their first home conference action on Thursday.

TMCC put their foot on the gas early and never looked back, scoring three times before 15 minutes went by. The 7-0 result saw 12 players for TMCC put up at least one shot attempt; led by Ely Marin, who netted two scores in the 9th and 77th minutes and assisted a 12th minute score from sophomore Adolfo Sanchez.

First year midfielder Cuauhtemoc Borjon netted his first collegiate score in the seventh minute, and it wouldn’t take long for TMCC to find the net again. Ely Marin and Adolfo Sanchez would each sneak one past Saints keeper Anthony Hernandez shortly thereafter, stretching the lead to three, an advantage the Lizards would take into the half.

While the Mighty Lizards remained quiet for the remainder of the first period, they kept things moving after the start of the second half, posting 15 shots. TMCC would widen their advantage to four in the 59th minute when sophomore Luis Chavez assisted Ben Linnert’s first score of the season, and added on three more before the end of the match.

Sophomore Micah Myers would be shown a red card after two cautions early in the first half. Myers will likely miss the Mighty Lizards Saturday matchup against in-state rival Southern Nevada as a result.

TMCC’s defensive unit put in another solid performance in the victory, keeping the Saints to two scoring chances and just one shot on target for the entire match to log their second clean sheet of the season.

The Mighty Lizard’s men’s side is back in action this Saturday, September 11 when they play host to in-state rival College of Southern Nevada for the first Silver State Showdown of 2020. Kickoff is set for 11:00AM, and the match will be streamed live on the Lizards Sports Network.
