TMCC’s men bounced back from a tough result against the nations #1 ranked team last week to take a 3-0 victory in Colorado on Saturday.
The Mighty Lizards got things going early, finding the net in the 11th minute and not looking back to claim the first of two meetings with their Colorado foes. Freshman midfielder Oscar Villasenor found the net unassisted to open the scoring. Another chance from Luis Gutierrez-Sanchez nearly doubled TMCC’s advantage just a minute later, but it would be saved by Spartans keeper Leo Loya.
Sophomores Ben Linnert and Allen Somera led the attacking effort for TMCC in the victory, posting three shots each and putting two chances on target. Somera would extend TMCC’s advantage to two scores just before the end of the first half, bagging his third goal of the season off an assist from Ely Marin.
Stout defending from Erick Ceja-Gonzalez and co. dominated the afternoon. TMCC’s defensive unit secured their third clean sheet of the season, surpassing their Spring 2021 total of two with six matches to play in conference action.
Linnert would widen TMCC’s lead to three in the final minutes, securing his second score of the season off an assist from Micah Myers.
TMCC will return home following their one-game trip to Colorado this week. The Mighty Lizards will take on Snow College and Utah State Eastern on September 30 and October 1 at home. Both matches will be streamed live on the Lizards Sports Network.
