Murray's AP Top 25: Defending champs take a major tumble

Villanova
Villanova lost back-to-back games last week. (Handout)

Nevada Sports Net columnist Chris Murray is one of 65 voters in the college basketball AP Top 25 poll. Here is a look at the biggest movers and shakers in his poll this week.

Team on the rise

* Michigan: The Wolverines whacked Villanova (more on that below) as part of a three-win week and is 5-0 this season. Michigan moved from No. 15 to No. 10 on my ballot and looks strong in the early going after reaching last year's national championship game. With four teams dropping off my ballot, I also welcomed Iowa (19), Buffalo (21), Wisconsin (24) and Furman (25).

Team on the fall

* Villanova: The defending national champs lost back-to-back games – to Michigan by 28 and to Furman in overtime – for the first time since the 2012-13 season when the Wildcats lost back-to-back contests in the Big East Tournament and NCAA Tournament. As a result, Villanova also tumbled out of my Top 25. Coach Jay Wright will surely get this team on solid footing, but Villanova, which was eighth on my ballot last week, doesn’t warrant a Top 25 spot at this stage.
