Book smarts: Wolf Pack athletic programs ranked by team GPA

The Wolf Pack athletic department recently released its annual report to the Nevada Board of Regents. There is a treasure trove of information in the filing, which you can look at here. Here is a look at the academic side of the report. Below is the grade-point average per sport at Nevada followed by the multi-year Academic Progress Report for the 2018-19 athletic season. There's no surprise to see Nevada swimming and diving atop the list. That's where it was last season, too.

Grade-point average

Here are the 2018-19 grade-point averages of each Wolf Pack program, ranked from best to worst. The first number is the total GPA for 2018-19 and the split for the fall and spring semesters in parenthesis.

1. 3.553 – Women's swimming and diving (3.605/3.501)

2. 3.505 – Women's golf (3.450/3.560)

3. 3.398– Women's tennis (3.444/3.351)

4. 3.371 – Rifle (3.402/3.339)

5. 3.366 – Women's cross country/track (3.356/3.375)

6. 3.303 – Men's tennis (3.280/3.325)

7. 3.258 – Women's basketball (3.268/3.248)

8. 3.197 – Volleyball (3.071/3.322)
