Nevada volleyball's Afoa named Wolf Pack Student Athlete of the Week

Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Afoa has been named the Wolf Pack Student Athlete of the Week after Nevada volleyball took two of three matches in the Sacramento State Tournament.

The Honolulu, Hawaii native posted a new career high in kills with 23 against UC Riverside on Saturday, leading the team to the 3-0 sweep. Afoa also recorded a double-double in each of the matches bringing her up to six on the year and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Afoa also stepped up on the defensive side with 34 digs and five blocks on the weekend. The sophomore ranks fifth in the Mountain West in kills with 118 and ninth in digs with 119.

The Pack wraps up preseason with a single match at Saint Mary’s on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. PT and a single match at Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 15 at noon PT.
