RENO, Nev. – Junior first baseman Dillan Shrum was named to D1 Baseball’s top 100 list of draft eligible hitters for 2019 this week. Shrum is coming off a career year and served an instrumental role in Nevada securing the 2018 Mountain West regular season championship.
The analytics used by D1 Baseball to compile its list looks into hit ability, plate discipline, and game power. Plate discipline looks at how a hitter controls the strike zone, hit ability calculates the batter’s ability to reach base and game power is whether the batter produces base hits.
Out of 100 for each category, Shrum scored an 85.7 for hit ability, a 77.4 for plate discipline and a 90.1 in game power.
As a sophomore in 2018, Shrum batted .312 on the season with a career-high 32 runs scored, 54 hits, two triples and 46 RBI. He was named to the Mountain West All-Tournament Team after hitting .333 with three runs scored, three RBI and two home runs in two games.
Shrum led Nevada with a .566 slugging percentage, was second on the team with seven home runs, and was hit-by-pitch a team-high 17 times which also ranked as 40th in the country.
