RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC will look to get back into the race for a playoff berth this Saturday as the club hosts LA Galaxy II on “Noche Latina” presented by Toro Law.
Kickoff for Saturday’s match is slated for 6:45 p.m. at Greater Nevada Field.
Reno (11-7-9, 42 points) has now slipped to ninth place in the USL’s Western Conference, one spot below the playoff line, following Saint Louis FC’s draw with Real Monarchs SLC on Wednesday.
Reno is just one point away from reaching the Top 8 again and 17 points from clinching a spot in the playoffs for a second consecutive year.
Reno will have an excellent shot at three points Saturday against a team it has never lost to, LA Galaxy II.
The last time these clubs met, Reno pulled off a convincing 4-1 defeat on the road to extend its 16-match unbeaten streak.
Midfielder Jerry van Ewijk scored a brace (two goals), forward Antoine Hoppenot scored his first goal of the season and midfielder Chris Wehan hit a rocket goal from a free kick in the win.
Saturday’s contest is the first of four matches back home at Greater Nevada Field.
“It’s great to be home, but we have to take advantage of it,” Reno head coach Ian Russell said. “We haven’t been great at home this year.
“We have to figure out a way to make our house a fortress.”
LA Galaxy II (9-14-6, 33 points) is coming of a 3-1 loss to OKC Energy FC but has two key wins over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC and Las Vegas Lights FC in its past five matches.
The club ranks both in the Top 10 in the USL for goals scored (50) and goals allowed (56).
Frank López leads the club with 10 goals while 16-year-old phenom Efrain Alvarez has nine goals on the year.
