Longtime Reno High School head football coach Dan Avansino has confirmed with Nevada Sports Net that he is no longer with the program.
Avansino has spent 17 seasons at the helm of the Huskies football team leading them to a state championship in 2003 and multiple NIAA 4A Regional Championship appearances over the last decade.
In a phone interview on Monday, November 5, athletic director Jim Pace told NSN that, "no decision had been made regarding Coach Avansino's employment."
Pace emphasized that staff would be meeting later in the week to discuss the matter and expects a decision in the coming days.
Avansino confirmed via text message on Monday evening that he had been fired from his head coaching position but will continue teaching at Reno High School.
The ousting comes at the heels of an interview with our reporter Shannon Kelly that happened on Friday, November 2 on Friday Night Rivals as seen on Nevada Sports Net.
It is unclear whether or not the interview between Kelly and Avansino provoked the firing.
Nevada Sports Net will have a one-on-one interview with Dan Avansino on Tuesday, November 6.
Nevada Sports Net has reached out to the school's administration and the school district -- but have not heard back as of late Monday.
The decision is getting mixed reactions from both sides across social media.
This is a developing story. Check back with Nevada Sports Net for more details.
