Despite spotting the rest of the team a 30-point lead, Nevada football's first string overcame that deficit to score a 42-36 victory at the Silver & Blue Scrimmage on Saturday at Mackay Stadium before about 1,000 fans.

The game, which was the final of 15 spring camp practices for Nevada, allowed each of the three quarterbacks vying for the starting job a chance to show their wares. Each made some big plays.

Cristian Solano started with the first string and completed 13-of-17 passes for 169 yards. He accounted for two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) and threw on interception. Second-string Carson Strong completed 18-of-26 passes for 195 yards, two touchdowns and one pick. And Malik Henry completed 16-of-28 passes for 211 yards and one touchdown. He was the only quarterback among the three who didn't have a turnover.

The offense started slowly but picked things up after the first half as Nevada played a full 60-minute game, only with a running block after intermission. The Wolf Pack defense created six turnovers, with the first string allowing just one score to the rest of the team. That came early in the game after the second string had a short field to work with following a turnover.

Nevada largely leaned on the passing game as two of the Wolf Pack's running backs (Kelton Moore, Jaxson Kincaide) were banged up and head coach Jay Norvell didn't want to overly stress starter Toa Taua, who rushed 10 times for 40 yards and caught three passes for 33 yards.

Receiver Eliajh Cooks caught nine passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns Romeo Doubs added four receptions for 151 yards and two scores. The Wolf Pack's other two touchdowns came from a 12-yard pass from Hamish McClure to Melquan Stovall and a 5-yard run from Crishaun Lappin.

Nevada opens the season Aug. 30 against Purdue.
