The No. 8-seeded Nevada women’s basketball team held off No. 9 San Jose State, 78-68, on Sunday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas.

The victory sets up a rematch of last year’s MW Championship game as the Wolf Pack will face No. 1 Boise State at noon Monday in the quarterfinals. The game will air locally on Nevada Sports Net.

On Sunday, SJSU hit 13 3-pointers but the Wolf Pack held big advantages on the glass and charity stripe to get past the Spartans. Nevada had a 45-19 edge on the backboard and grabbed 17 offensive rebounds. Terae Briggs pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with 12 points to post her 10th double-double of the season.

Freshman Emma Torbert tied her career high in rebounds with 11 and scored a career-best 15 points. Torbert had a key individual run, hitting three straight 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Senior Jade Redmon scored a team-high 19 points with eight rebounds. She made 11-of-14 free throws, an area where Nevada out-scored SJSU, 26-9.

Nevada improved to 12-18 overall; SJSU ended its season at 6-24.
