Sacramento, Calif. - Campus Tennis Courts

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Nevada men's tennis came within a point of a season-opening victory Thursday at Sacramento State, but the Pack dropped the final three singles matches to fall, 4-3, to the Hornets.

Sacramento State's (1-2) Liam Liles and Rudolfs Aksenoks, playing at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively, each overcame a one-set deficit to capture three-set wins over Nevada's Juan Batalla and Loris Zisswiller and clinch the winning points.

Nevada had built a 3-1 lead thanks in part to a dominant effort in doubles, as Batalla and Isaac Nortey captured a 6-3 victory over Liles and Mark Keki at the No. 1 spot, and the team of Benjamin Campi and Matheo Coupi defeated Aksenoks and Jan Silva, 6-4.

With the 1-0 lead, the Pack built it to 3-1 and put the Hornets on the brink with singles wins from Satchel Benn (6-1, 6-0) and N'Tcha Delmas (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) at Nos. 4 and 2 spots, respectively. But the match-clinching point eluded the Pack, and Nevada fell to 0-1 to begin the season.
