The Nevada basketball team will play Fordham University in its first game at the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam in November.
It is the second time the Wolf Pack will play in the event, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Nevada will play three games in this year's eight-team event with potential opponents being Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Grand Canyon, Illinois State, Valparaiso and Western Kentucky.
Fordham is one of the lesser programs in the field. The Rams, who play in the Atlantic 10, went 12-20 last season, including a 3-15 mark in conference play (14th in the 14-team conference). Nevada's second and third games will be determined based on who wins which games.
The Nevada-Fordham game will be played Nov. 22 at 12:15 p.m. Pacific time. The other first-round matchups are: Valparaiso vs. Grand Canyon; Illinois State vs. Cincinnati; and Bowling Green vs. Western Kentucky. Fordham had the worst 2018-19 record of the eight teams in the field. Its NET of 245 last year also was the worst in the field. Nevada is on the same side of the bracket as Valparaiso and Grand Canyon, so it will play one of those teams in its second game.
Losing teams will compete in their second game Nov. 23. Winning teams will have one day off before the semifinals start Nov. 24. All teams will return to the UVI Sports and Fitness Center Monday for the final day of competition. The seventh-place game will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific, followed by the fourth-place game at 12:15 p.m., third-place game at 2:45 p.m., and the championship game at 5 p.m.
