Nevada basketball adds home game with Santa Clara

Nevada basketball will host Santa Clara this season as part of a two-game series, per CBS' Jon Rothstein.

The Wolf Pack and Broncos are familiar foes, having played 62 times, including a home-and-home series in 2015-16 and 2017-18. The teams have played each other seven times since 2000, with Nevada winning four straight in the series.

Nevada will host Santa Clara in 2019-20 and return a game to the Bay Area in 2020-21. The Broncos, coached by Herb Sendek, went 16-15 overall and 8-8 in the WCC last season. It had a NET ranking of 184 and a KenPom score of 186.

The Wolf Pack's non-conference schedule to date includes the following games:

Home: USC, Utah, Santa Clara

Road: Davidson, BYU

Neutral: St. Mary's (Chase Center), Fordham (Paradise Jam), Valparaiso or Grand Canyon (Paradise Jam), one more TBD (Paradise Jam)

That gives Nevada nine non-conference games for 2019-20. The Wolf Pack can schedule up to 13 games for the non-conference season since it is playing in an exempt tournament (the Paradise Jam).

The average NET ranking of Nevada's non-conference opponents last season was 133 with six top-100 teams (out of 13) and zero top-50 teams. The average NET ranking of Nevada's schedule non-conference opponents for next season is 116.9 with five top-100 teams (out of seven) and one top-50 team. In 2017-18, Nevada's non-conference schedule included an average opponent RPI rank of 113.5 with five top-100 teams (out of 14) and four top-50 teams.
