Murray's AP Top 25: The Mountain West joins the party

Fresno State

Nevada Sports Net columnist Chris Murray is one of 61 voters in the college football AP Top 25 poll. Here is a look at the biggest movers and shakers in his poll this week as well as his full ballot.

Team on the rise

* The Mountain West (old and new): Eleven Top 25 teams lost this weekend, so there were a lot of slots to fill on the back half of my ballot. I added two “new” Mountain West schools and one “old” one, mixing in Utah (now in the Pac-12, formerly of the MW) in at 16th from unranked last week. Also being added to the ballot are Utah State at No. 19 and Fresno State at No. 20. If San Diego State would have beaten Nevada – the Aztecs lost 28-24 – it also would have been in my Top 25.

Team on the fall

* The Pac-12 powers: It was a weird week in the Pac-12 as Washington lost to Cal and Oregon lost to Arizona, with both of those Pacific Northwest teams being dropped from my ballot. (Also in the Pac-12, Oregon State upset Colorado and Arizona State upset USC). Washington State outlasted Stanford and moved to a season-best 11th on my ballot while Utah made the aforementioned jump up. But the traditional Pac-12 powers have fallen on hard times this season.
