Bishop Manogue running back Peyton Dixon's new home is the San Joaquin Valley.
After a record-setting senior season, Dixon had his choice of scholarships from four Mountain West schools (Fresno State, Nevada, Wyoming, UNLV) and several FCS teams. He ultimately picked Fresno State, announcing his decision during a signing day event Wednesday at his high school.
Dixon rushed for a state-record 3,136 yards and 45 touchdowns this season while leading Bishop Manogue to the Class 4A state title game. Fresno State, which employs a run-first pro-style offense, was considered the favorite heading into signing day. The Bulldogs have been heavily recruiting him over the last couple of months.
During his signing announcement, Dixon had cardboard signs for Fresno State, Wyoming, UNLV and UC Davis but not Nevada. He said the Wolf Pack asked him not to put up their logo at his signing day table after he informed them he wasn't attending Nevada. After taking off his sweatshirt, Dixon initially revealed an Idaho State shirt, a playful jab at his brother who runs track for the Bengals. He then took that off to reveal a blue Fresno State shirt before donning a Bulldogs hat.
Fresno State is coming off back-to-back MW West Division titles, including a conference championship and postseason win over Arizona State in the Las Vegas this season. The Bulldogs' two top running backs this year were sophomores. Ronnie Rivers rushed for 743 yards and 10 touchdowns. Jordan Mims rushed for 436 yards and six scores. Dixon will battle with them for carries in the future.
